We are tossing in a stormy sea of mish-mashed messages as the wonder of nano-science begins to de-bunk the myths of the last 70 years of the diet industry's messages.
And now we are in a worldwide economy of the 'Health Industry', and the self-help sell has become a competitive market. And it is confusing.
At the same time, we are in an era of new discovery, learning about the human body in ways never imagined, and the bandwagons are all waving their flags: carbs-are-bad! gluten-is-the-enemy! fats-are-good! sugar-is-poison! this supplement will change your life! this supplement will ramp your fitness!
On and on... we are under a constant onslaught of over-information, soundbite information, and mis-information.
How do we even begin to determine the right message in the wall of white noise that is our internet?
And underpinning all these health messages we are still clinging tightly to the notion that Fit & Slim equates to healthy.
But does being fit and slim necessarily mean that you are healthy?
Is a constant battle to seek that slim body coming at a cost?
Is your dieting to lose weight creating havoc with your hormones?
Is over exercising actually depleting your reserves?
Are you using substances that override your body chemistry, to bring you that fit & slim physique now, that may be undermining your true state of health?
Might this undermining damage have the potential to generate illness later in life?
Fit & Slim
Our societal ideas of what it means to be ‘healthy’ have become skewed by the diet and fitness industries, and it is probably quite fair to say that most people equate being fit and slim with being healthy.
Lots of people believe that being healthy means going to the gym 4 times a week, eating a steady diet of salads, yogurt and apples, ever in search of that airbrushed standard of the skinny.
Many people may be gaining what feels like a fit and healthy physique, but they may not be aware that their constant workouts may in fact be depleting their energy. Often a good workout will give us a marvellous sense of well being; an endorphin buzz makes us feel great.
But what many people may not realise is that the buzz may be masking an underlying depletion. Your workouts may be exhausting your reserves rather than replenishing your energy.
Many people feel great when they diet and exercise and begin to take off weight, often motivated by that famous Kate Moss quote prescribing that “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels”. However, it may be that the slimming diet is actually taxing their underlying health and playing havoc with their digestive and reproductive hormone balance.
Fad diets will never work! - what they will do instead is compromise the delicate balance of digestion and will eventually lead to hormonal disruption. The weight may come off in the short term, but it will usually go right back on again as the digestive metabolism becomes wonky and the systems cannot regulate.
Jani White, along with her Colleagues & Associates, have a more desirable philosophy; we believe that Genuine Health is demonstrated by 'Fluency and Suppleness'
Fluent & Supple
When we are feeling fluent, every part of us is communicating, on all our levels: not only physically, but also mentally and emotionally.
Fluency gives us a much better ability to move through our lives, through our challenges, with an improved ability to cope with the stresses and strains of modern living.
As does suppleness. Not only are we speaking of the comfort that happens when we inhabit our bodies with suppleness - when we have good flow and good flow brings good energy - but we are also speaking about what happens when we have mental and emotional suppleness.
Our ability to bend and shimmy and be flexible and vibrant on all our levels helps to give us a strong sense of equanimity.
Having fluency & suppleness gives us a great sense of ease. This is why treatments such as acupuncture, any 'hands on' treatment or therapy, massage, reflexology, why yoga or Pilates, why mindfulness and meditation are such powerful tools.
This is why walking under the trees on the actual earth is so regenerating, why feeling nature, the sun on our face, the wind in our hair, is so beneficial. Being outside is an essential aspect to generating fluency. And walking will always enhance suppleness.
Fluency & suppleness is why talking-therapies are so important, to help us resonate and understand our beliefs and how they manifest in our lives. All this kind of care and attention is what keeps us supple and fluent - on all our levels.
And when we are moving through our lives with ease this is indeed a very healthy feeling. It gives us flow that allows us to move without resistance, which gives us better power, fluent energy and the suppleness to live in an engaged and sustained state of well being.
Health-Quester is all about cutting a swathe through the jungle of over-information, helping you to find a route to the solutions that work for you.
Food is the First Medicine
Fluent digestion will lead to fluent metabolism and this means that our body’s own mechanisms for keeping us at a good weight are perfectly in sync.
Correct diet is essential to good health. But how do we find our way to understanding correct diet within the omnipresent onslaught of the diet industry mantra to be slim?
What is healthy for one person might not be the best health solution for another. Our individual make-up is as different as each and every one of us.
This is one of the great powers inherit within Chinese medicine diagnosis: it is ideally geared to help us understand what is unique to that person and to then build a treatment/lifestyle plan that suits exactly what that particular person might need.
There is a saying in Chinese medicine - 'Food is the First Medicine'. We consider this to be one of the most important tools, along with lifestyle change, to helping you to re-gain and live in genuine health.
Our ideal is that food is to be enjoyed and savoured and we do NOT believe in the idea of a prescribed diet. We aim to help you find the dietary guidelines that give you a lifestyle of food habits that benefit you - for life, not just for weight loss.
Eating well is so much more than just the right nutrients, it is also about understanding a much more whole-systems picture of your own physiology and digestion. We want to help you find the right sorts of foods, the right sorts of cooking methodologies, sourcing quality fruits and vegetables that are nutrient rich, sourcing well husbanded animal products that are at the peak of nutrition and the lowest ebb of adulteration...
Food is definitely the foundation to our health, and very much the cornerstone of our Health-Quest.
