Don't Laugh! This was the name of one of my side-hustle businesses that generated income whilst I was doing my undergraduate degree. My kids were 4 and 5 when I went to university, and I drew together funds through a combination of my work for Social Services Care-in-the-Community, selling cakes (maintaining a food hygiene business registration), as well as running the 'Mrs Mop Cleaning Service'.
All that, in between writing essays and caring for my own household. Ahhhh, the energy of youth!
Then... 25 years of running my clinics, maintaining rigorous clean-field standards in medical facilities.
You might say my benchmarks for cleanliness are fairly high. Others just roll their eyes and consider my penchant for cleanliness, orderliness and tidyness to verge on the level of OCD. Hmmm.
I blame it on my Mom, she was a clean-freak-neat-freak and my brothers and I have all inherited this trait.
My current role as Housekeeper/Caregiver
I have been in a job that has suited me to the ground, allowing me to cook and clean and care for 80 year olds with Parkinsons and dementia - and on top of all that - all the delights of sorting through 5000 sq feet of accumulated Stuff-of-Life.
My clients are preparing to downsize, and it has been my great joy to empty jammed-full cupboards and drawers and to sort the wheat from the chaff - there have been many many runs to the charity shops!
Some people run a marathon, and then there's those who run 'ultra-marathons'. Well... that's the level I like to take organisation to.
know You that expression "If you want something done, ask a busy person" Well, I'd say that sums me up.
I am a doer, and I like being busy, and the way I have managed to cram in several lifetimes worth of doing is by being uber-organised.
It's my happy place.
True Blue Foodie
I truly LOVE food. I love working with it, creating something delicious, I love growing it, I love preserving.
Food is my other very very Happy Place.
From comfort food to elegant dinner parties -
Cooking from scratch, using fresh ingredients: feeding people brings me joy.
I am an accomplished cook, able to plan extended menus, batch cooking so that every dish also becomes a meal in the freezer.
I am able to very effectively plan a single weekly shop, to keep the fridge stocked, and to lay high quality, nutritional meals on the table 3 times daily.
I have always described myself as a mother-who-works, not as a working mother. Providing nutritious delicious meals for my family has instilled a life-long habit of cooking once, eating twice, plus one for the freezer.
As my family say - '"Jani is pathologically incapable of cooking for any less than 8 people".
Chinese medicine 'dietetics' is the study of food as medicine. The focus of my clinical practice was acupuncture combined with dietetic diagnosis and prescription.
My patients loved the way we would hone their diet to exactly match the needs of their constitution and facilitate genuine transformation in their health and well being.
