About Jani

Picture

Welcome to Jani's-Very-Own-Website - a place where you can connect with me socially, read and engage with the 'Health-Quester' blog and podcast, learn more about me as a person, and find access to all of my projects and websites.

I guess we should call this the 'Hub' site.

This social site is an invitation to connect more directly, and to create a space that helps entwine our skills and interests. And it's about having fun, and playing - something we all need to find more time for!

So come and play with me and let's adventure into finding ways to make our lives resonate with Genuine Health.

So just who is this Jani White?

Uhhmmm, a girl who likes to wear hats and splash about in fountains, that's for sure!

For the full-scale CV-style biography please pop over to the AcuHouse site to see the goods on the last 20 years of education and practice...

AcuHouse Biography

So how does one set about doing an autobiographical "Why, How and What" in a nutshell?

Being of a somewhat verbose nature (just ask my book editor who slashed 20,000 words from the final manuscript), I am ever challenged to be succinct. So here goes...

My Philosophy (Why)

Picture

I have put a lot of thought, time and energy into creating a lifestyle that reflects the values that I wish to share with all of my patients, colleagues & students and friends & family:

Living lightly, eating cleanly, resting well, being outside everyday, playing lots, stretching - physically (yoga! pilates!) and to be just as flexible in heart and mind, all the while trying to have as low impact a commute as is humanly possible.

So I moved to a flat that is right on Hampstead Heath, trees and sky everyday! (This photo was taken by me [no filters] on a rather glorious autumn day). I mostly work from home, I commute by bicycle to get to my clinic, and my 'supermarket' is the Farmer's Market plus our local independent health food shop.

I guess you could say that I strive to resonate as closely to the health principles that I share with my community of patients and colleagues, and if I am going to stand up to advocate these principles for healthy living then it behoves me to live this way as fully as possible.

Which doesn't mean I don't get over-busy or stressed or run down - I surely do - and then I practice the health balancing remedies, treatments and solutions that I share with my patients.

My philosophy is to live in wellness, everything in moderation, path of least resistance and 'whatever works'.

My ambition is to live in Genuine Health, on every level, and to be in a harmonious resonance that brings vitality and well being. My philosophy is to practice kindness and gratitude, to build and live in community, to share and to move through life with non-resistance.

You might just say I like to "Go with the flow".

My Approach (How)

Picture

I have struggled with illness of varying degrees from early childhood, and the challenges these have given me are what has set me on this path of medicine and all things HEALTH.

The stories of how I came to Chinese medicine, and of my own pathway to sorting out my musculo-skeletal, my auto-immune, my digestive and reproductive issues and my emotional baggage from a difficult childhood all contribute to give shape to the reasons I do this work.

I could not have appreciated this in my 20's or even into my 30's, but these challenges are the very foundation to my understanding of health - and what it means to earn it, to have it and to hold it.

And so the 'How' of the 'Why' of it, dear reader, is my very great desire to help people find their own pathway to better health.

My career began steeped in fertility and pregnancy and paediatrics. Then, as my interest in Men's health began to branch out from fertility to all things uro-genital, as my growing understanding of hormones took me towards treating menopause, as my paediatric work expanded to include teenagers, I have found myself on a pathway called 'Hormones 'R' Us'.

So 2 decades later, and a lot of study under the bridge, I now describe my practice as 'All Ages - All Stages' for men and women, for boys and girls, from infant to geriatric.

Chinese medicine is a very wise medicine, and there has never been a more exciting Age within which to study and practice this medicine. The cutting edge of nano-science is giving us a window to supporting and proving the theories that underpin the practice of this great medicine.

We are on a cusp of a whole new understanding of human biology, and now is the time for us to collectively begin the shift to a more intrinsic kind of health care. It is happening all around us - and one of my daily gratitude's is the surety of seeing the deep wisdom of Chinese medicine come into a translatable and applicable resonance within modern medicine - Just look at all those cupping circles on our Olympic athletes!

My 'How' is the foundation that has been the cornerstone of my practice, the cornerstone of my own challenges and struggles to find wellness - I have come to health through Integrative medicine.

I campaign for and support the practice of medicine without barriers - Eastern, Western, holistic, orthodox - to hold at centre the true understanding that our health is an integration of heart and mind within the house that is our physiology. This is fundamentally the recognition that all levels nurture and support each other. Genuine Health is when we feel truly integrated with our sense of self, when we feel received and accepted and integrated within our communities, and when we feel fully integrated with our loved ones.
Healthy Self, Healthy Communities, Healthy relationships.

It's all about connection.
Which is why I love acupuncture so much - it is quite astonishing to experience how acupuncture creates connection.

My Activities (What)

Picture

2016 sees a real shift in my practice and teaching.

With the launch of the 'Fizz' book series, I am taking a turn stage right to reaching out more directly to the general public.

My clinic is now on reduced hours and I am spending much more time writing, and much more time engaging with the public through media and public talks.

This photo was taken at the Fizz Book Launch and Reception, with my wonderful 'Book Doula' Heather Boisseau

The biggest outreach will be the 'Health-Quester' blog, and my most exciting project is the development of the Health-Quester podcast. We will be bringing experts to the microphone to open up meaningful exchange and discussion of what it really means to be Genuinely Healthy.

This year I am putting much of my Chinese medicine teaching on-line. Watch this space... the site is in development, and my lectures will soon be available via TCM Academy (not yet live) and ProD. I will be launching the new website: www.janiwhite.education (not yet live) where colleagues and students can easily find my lectures.

Medical conferences, Western and Chinese, are still very much on the cards, and my Chinese medicine teaching will now be limited to doing practicum weekends with small groups to facilitate a more hands-on peer-to-peer learning environment.

There are many more ideas in the pipeline - RecoveryZone - the 'Take your Lunch to Workbook', and the companion 'Take Your Lunch to School book' - to name a few, and as the blog evolves and develops we will be building up a cache of video recipes to help you learn better ways to become healthy cooks...

So much on the horizon, no wonder I need regular acupuncture and osteopathy and massage and yoga to keep me fluent and supple!
